Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike have 12.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify – Courtesy

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are considered the best DJs in the world by leading the top 100 of DJ Mag in 2015 and 2019, which corresponds to one of the most important lists in the world of electronic music, and this 2020 the brothers want to repeat this feat and consecrate themselves as the best exponents of the international electronic scene. In an interview with Publimetro, Dimitri Vegas affirmed that one of the most important challenges to maintain is persistence.

What is the biggest challenge of being considered the most important DJs in the world?
—Obviously these recognitions are very important in our career and I think that a great strength we have is our followers from Mexico and Latin America, who always help us to be at the top, so it seems to me that the biggest challenge is to continue making music that can impact the public, create themes that really connect with them and can make them feel something. We are currently living one of the most difficult moments for the world and we have all kept taking care of ourselves but it has helped us to create new music, stay active and in the public’s taste.

What does it mean for you to be part of this list and to be number one?—When we first appeared on this list, it was incredible, we really couldn’t believe it. I remember thinking “someday, sometime, we will be number one” and when it happened it was a dream come true because being number one on such an important list is something that really marks your life and your career, allowed many more people to get to know us.

How has it been working with Latino artists? Would you like to continue doing so?– A few days ago we premiered a song with Kimberly Loaiza and it was incredible, because in the first 20 hours of its premiere the song had more than 40 thousand views and interactions on TikTok and the video has become very popular in Latin America on YouTube, currently it has more than 10 million views and that makes us very happy. We also have a song with Daddy Yankee, with Sebastián Yatra, so we feel very close to the Latin sounds and most likely we will have more collaborations soon.

What is your perception of electronic music today?—I think we are in a unique moment for electronic music and now we see a lot of talent, even in the 90s we listened to a lot of DJs, I won’t mention all of them because the list is very big, but I think electronic music has evolved and changed. Now many young people want to become a DJ and it is incredible, because we see that our music can inspire many people.

How was your experience at the Tomorrowland digital festival?—Definitely what we are experiencing took us by surprise and all the festivals and presentations were canceled, so we looked for a way to do something different and be able to carry a message of unity and hope to all the spectators. As for us, it was a very different presentation than what we have done before but we really enjoyed it.
