Mason Live pioneers with innovative show technology that enables the performers to control video and lighting directly from the stage like never before. Here are the complete details plus a great video sample of Mason Live.

The massively talented Dutch production duo, Mason, who have a great track record of chart and club hits, working recently with artists including Roisin Murphy and Kurtis Blow, and gaining fans such as Pete Tong, Soulwax and The Magician; have been wowing fans on their recent ‘They Are Among Us’ album tour with a typically unique live show never been seen before.

Audiences witness an integrated show where the tracks performed on stage become multi-disciplinary compositions, merging sound, light and moving images. All areas are fully synchronized, but the uniqueness is when Mason are chopping their audio files on stage, all show systems simultaneously adapt in real timeThe live show continuously presents new video content and lighting movements that accurately match Mason’s actions on stage.

“We know people are looking for more entertainment so we wanted to create something out of the ordinary, more like a rock ’n’ roll show that could include a big light show. Most people don’t distinguish between a live act and a DJ show so we wanted to make the difference clear through the use of a synchronised system using iconic visuals and playing instruments and to give people something to remember”. Mason

Mason use a new show concept that is being developed by the Dutch companies Deep Red (show design) and ArtTech (technology). Together they designed a new software environment and programmed it from scratch with the primary target to support real-time synchronisation, as opposed to using pre-programmed SMPTE or other linear time code technology.

To mix and modify multiple layers of high-resolution video and simultaneously control lighting equipment in real-time, the core of the system is built to use the multiple processors and graphics cards of one or more high-end computers as efficiently as possible. The connection to Mason’s live performance equipment mainly uses the latest possibilities in Max For Live – a feature recently introduced by Ableton and Cycling ’74.

Impressively, the system is flexible during performance, but it can adapt to lighting and video rigs in its particular environment, be it an intimate club setting or stadium-sized venue.

What with Mason’s ability to blend and control all their art forms on stage at the push of a button, live instrumentation, incredible music and an LED Baboon with lasers for eyes, the Mason Live! Show is not to be missed.
