Hundreds of thousands of revelers descended on Berlin for the 2006 Love Parade. 40 floats hosting DJs and dancers from aroudn the world traversed the city from Brandenberg Gate through Tiergarten park.
The Love Parade has a long history, beginning in 1989, the year the Berlin Wall fell. In 1999, 1.5 million people attended the parade. The event was put on hold the past two years due to lack of funding. This year's event saw some major funding (2.5 million euros) and launched with the tagline 'The Love is Back'.
According to an AFP report, several regular attendees noticed a significant reduction in visitors to the event.
