Former Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr has passed away. His body was found in a home in Salt Lake City, Utah on Tuesday. “It’s a terrible shock and tragedy,” says his father. Starr was 44 years old.

Starr was a founding member of Alice in Chains, the Seattle-based grunge rock band that emerged in the 1990s. He was featured on their first two albums, but left the group in 1993.  Starr appeared on VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew” in 2009 and was arrested last month in Utah for felony possession of painkillers for which he didn’t have a prescription, police reported.

No other details regarding Starr’s death have been released at this point.
