Or so I thought the first time I watched this. Please watch this more than once so you can get the full picture.
I feel this cop MAY have been a little rough, but after watching it twice I noticed the kid was givin him some lip which was hard to pick up with the audio. Then I realized that this cop probly deals with kids like this every day...Then I was reminded that kids today have absolutely no respect, like they used to. These kids learned a valuble lesson and I wouldn't mind having more cops like this patrolling the streets. But some of you will disagree with me, which is fine, because this cop is harsh. But, in my opinion, justified.

Assault may be a little of a stretch...he didn't hurt him. However, the officer was a little extreme. I agree with calling his mom and explaining why he took the kid's skateboard and the lecture and all that...it's not what the cop did, it's how he did it. I think it would have been more effective to remain calm. Legally, the officer has no grounds to arrest the kid or any other type of action.
Just before the end of the video, the camera quickly faces the ground and then you hear the officer asking the individual filming if he got him on tape...his threat is soon cut off, but that was out of line. There is nothing wrong with filming an officer, in fact, I'd recommend it, keeps people accountable...do you think the officer would have been quite as brash if he had known he was on camera and couldn't do anything about it? Probably not.
Swearing at the kid and telling him that if he doesn't clean up his act he will be killed someday is completely unnecessary. Yes, the child is a immature, but hello, he is 14...of course he's going to talk like that, everyone his age who goes to a public school does. I think that the officer could have gotten the same respect if he had firmly enforced the law and held his tongue and anger in check. He threatened the child repeatedly, which is illegal, he has no authority to arrest an individual, especially a minor, for calling him a dude...do you honestly think that would hold up in court?
I've had to deal with kids that age before...it's impossible to get them to pay attention to you or obey you...but parenting isn't the role of the police officer, enforcing the law is. He also should not have insulted the kids parents, saying "obviously your parents don't stick there foot up your butt enough." How the hell does he know how his parents punish him...maybe they've done everything short of beat the child and it still doesn't work...
The cop was right about the child's disrespect, but he did not handle it well, and I guarantee you he is dealing with the flack now that it is out on the internet. -

Did a little more research, apparently, the officer has been suspended for his actions.

police officers are supposed to be calming, if he did that in a british council estate he'd get his arse kicked every day of the week.

I think the officer did act out of line but at the same time I'm glad he did. Police officers 'technically' aren't supposed to discipline the kids as much as they are supposed to enforce the law, but I think that should change. Officers are supposed to make this world a better and safer place. Teaching some kids some respect is fine with me. Although he went about it perhaps wrongly.

but if you cant respect him, how can he advise respect?

You have to respect him. He is a cop, and if nothing else, he is their elder. He probly has to keep kids off the sidewalk every day and after doing it for so long and probly having kids give him lip and smartmouth and all that, he's pissed.
Also keep in mind that parents used to discipline by beating the hell out of their kids. I'm not saying that's right, but I'm also saying that we need to quit coddling these little turds and lay down the law, if you will. In fact, these days I see kids, highschool kids, swearing in front of their own parents. It's sickening to me, anyway. And their parents don't do anything.
lol...coddling these little turds.
