Something I've noticed is that there is alot of repetition in songs. When is it too much?

? ... i'm not sure how to answer this really its all about your style and what the mood is ... if you have this great song for the club that you made and you wanna make a really clubby mix and play a section over n over a few times just cause the crowd wont stop moving to it then there is a good reason to be repitive ... but i notice all music has its own repitiveness to it so i guess deal with it bro is what im saying. shan

Imo there may never be too much. It depends on the feel of that song like Shanny mentioned. U can hear some loops the whole day and not get tired A friend of mine used to take some loops from a song and play it the whole day. Ppl who come to his house don't even notice that it is the same thing over and over. so repetition is like a back bone of music

u have to understand the style of the song and stucture and phrasing. with trance u should get out a good ferry corsten song and base ur opinion from 1 him pro artist to another here which whom u are are reviewing for. I listened to a few tracks after i was having some structure issues and ive noticed that most trance songs stay consistant with the same melody. then they layer the track with additional instruments to add some spice such as pads and strings or some stabs here and there along with fx or effects. then there is a high point climax/then a maybe a cool off break somewhere around the middle with another rise of the track to pump u up and then it outros. im sure someone could sum it up better then me but basically u want to keep the track intersting enough without going off path. sounds easier said then done

Well i think repetitions makes a track more vibrant specially if you are talkin about trance then sure it does pretty good job to give the track some pulse. As of a producer , it depends upon your productions , as to where you are taking your song & what is its theory ? Repititions both possess boring & groovy feleing , it depends upon the nature of the material you are producing & listening too. Cheers ! Soniq.

in my mates car he can change the track with a lever on his steering wheel, he'll flick through an album and fast forward to the chorus's on each track then flick to another one, drives me fucking mad.
comparing me with him, i dont really think about where the track is about to go i just enjoy the atmosphere its setting at the time, alls i need is some subtle changes and i can stay interested for hours... he just likes happy little hooks, i swear im going to nut him one of these days.
