Ibiza in Shambles :: Authorities Close Amnesia, DC10 and Bora Bora Clubs
by Michael Bordash
Tuesday, June 12 2007
Diario de Ibiza, the news agency for the hottest Summer dance music location on the planet, recently reported that government officials have ordered the clubs Amnesia, DC10 and Bora Bora to shut down. Effective immediately, DC 10 will be shut down for two months, Amnesia and Bora Bora for one month each.
A case has been brewing against these clubs related to the sale and use of illegal narcotics during the 2005 and 2006 seasons. The government has admitted that there is no legal precedent for closing clubs, but has proposed that drugs cause a safety hazard and hurt Ibiza's overall tourism industry. The government states that 450 people were arrested in possession of drugs during this year's opening weekend with one hospital handling 11 drug overdose cases.
The closures hurt many dance music fans who travel to Ibiza for the Summer, not to mention employees and DJs who depend on the Summer bookings. Although, the government has collected evidence from past years, it has decided to kill a huge amount of business during the island's key months. The situation could have been handled outside of the prime revenue-generating months and been to the benefit of all involved. Allegations of political undertones are spreading but no corroborating evidence has surfaced as yet.

| come on "2 out of the 3 big clubs there are closed" bora bora is a fuckin beach bar and dc10 holds less than 700 ppl why say this when at the same time you know who is a partner in space? i cant believe all this whining about it - you all know being blatent is going to backfire but you all think its all ok, and when someone decides to crack down you blame politics i'm not saying its not involved but if people had half a brain there wouldnt be the situation in the first place ibiza uncovered was a programme about 8 years ago or so now - its exactly because of that and the blatent flouting that you get things like what happened a couple of weeks ago the island is starting to move away from clubbers because they dont want you - if i were you i'd try and be more positive you're only digging yourselves a deeper hole Posted on: 2007-06-28 17:11:02 |
| "there were 30,000 people at space & dc10s openings alone, " er no... space opened on the sunday morning and probably had around 10-12,000 ppl over the course of 20 odd hours - and it wasnt space they were talking about dc10 holds around 500 ppl and on their opening (on the monday) 224 people were arrested there alone and 11 people were hospitalised so do the maths: 12000 plus 500 equals what ? "and thats not even the popular part of the island, 450 people with drugs out of about 100,000 clubbers that weekend is nothing!" bearing in mind that even if all the clubs were open all that weekend and full to capacity your hope of 100,000 clubbers is so far off the mark its not true approx 2 million tourists visit the island every year - unfortunately clubbers are in the statistical minority - which i know desnt help sell stories, but them there the facts you obviously have no idea what your talking about the last time i looked class a drugs were illegal - i dont care whether you like that or not but those are the facts when are people going to realise that going to someone elses country does not give them the right to immunity... if you dont like it, come and live here, register as a voter and make your point Posted on: 2007-06-28 16:59:38 |
