Love Parade of Death in Germany
by Michael Bordash
Saturday, July 24 2010
One of the most historically popular electronic music festivals in the world, the Love Parade, turned deadly today when a stampede broke out. Police have confirmed that 19 people have been killed, 342 injured.
Thousands of electronic music fans gathered at this year's festival held in Duisburg, near Duesseldorf.
German news agency DAPD reported that authorities tried to stop thousands of people from entering festival site. This sparked massive panic for reasons unclear, resulting in the stampede and subsequent deaths of attendees.
A far cry for the Berlin-based Love Parades of the past hosting upwards of 1.5 million fans, this year's event still had some big names. Included on the roster: Tom Novy, Tiesto, Tiefschwarz, ATB, Fedde Le Grand, David Guetta and many more.

| I think it lies more with the people in general at the festival. People seem to lose all reason when attending these kind of functions. They get drunk, they get riled up, and they start pushing and shoving when they can't get to where they want to be. My buddy who went said he left when the crowd stopped moving forward. He told others to turn around and people ignored him. I also blame the organizers & police for having no clear entrance and exit. A good solid entrance and a good solid exit = continuous movement and zero bottlenecks. Posted on: 2010-07-31 17:35:50 |
